The daffodils are up, the peepers are out, and I put away the rock salt, the snow shovels, and Ben’s snowpants: the true signs of spring up here in the northwest hills! I spent part of the day just tidying up the garden, checking on our wildlife camera, and collecting stray lacrosse balls from various nooks and crannies of the yard. We had a slow start to the morning, and I got to read to my heart’s content: one, two, three, four, followed by five, six, plus one for my fellow book annotators, and then this week’s ‘just trust me’.

A. This garden in southern Spain is a lovely daily dose of green, which I’m thinking of bringing back as a Notes feature…
B. A friend sent me this pretty lamp!
C. Tim cooked this pasta a few nights ago, and then, since it was so good, we sent the recipe to my parents, who cooked it the next night and also loved it. It’s coming to you with a double-stamp of approval.
D. The best kind of friendship is the kind where we’re blabbing at 4 pm and when realize I have no idea what I’m going to do about dinner, miraculously, when I ask what they’re going to cook, they say, “Oh, let me txt it to you,” and it’s this sheet pan white fish with veggies and capers. This was truly delicious and super, super, super adaptable. I used frozen tilapia from Costco, frozen green beans, and the last of a bag of frozen broccoli, and it turned out so, so, so well.

E. & F. I picked up this electric blue notebook along with these Le Pens. A new notebook and a good pen make me very happy.
G. This isn’t a new show, so many of you may have already discovered it. Tim introduced me to it last night, and it was so good to laugh (and laugh!): Last One Laughing! My sister is under the weather, and I prescribed both seasons as a remedy.
H. I’ve found that when I start a new fiction book right before bed, I end up staying up too late. I picked up the Atlas of Unexpected Places on our trip - and am finding that the short descriptions make for perfect bedtime reading.
I. This tiny game is about the size of a pack of gum! I used to collect decks of cards, so I couldn’t resist the siren song. The company makes over twenty different versions. I also bought this one.

It’s almost daffodil season! April 14, 2024
